Question

Module 4 - Consider the load and match circuit below. Calculate the load impedance at 30 MHz and plot it on an impedance space graph. How would you describe this load? The match shown, as currently wired cannot tune this load to match a cable of Z_o = 50 ohm, explain why not and how you can use a cable connected between the load and the match to make it work. Choose a length of RG-58 you think could make it so the match would work, explain your choice, and calculate the Z_in the match sees with that cable. Show this effect on your impedance space graph. Show on your graph how each component of the match will affect the new input impedance as the circuit is adjusted to match the load.

Explanation / Answer

In this circuit, there is a parallel combination of a resistor (R) and a capacitor (C).

So, admittance (Y)=1/R+ jwC

So, impedance (Z)=R/(1+jwCR) --->(1)

Magnitude |Z|=R/(1+w2C2R2)(1/2) and phase <z=tan-1(-wCR)
