Question
Thoroughly CONFUSED!! I'm a mechanical guy, not electrical. I'm completetly lost here!!
The instructions here refer to an excel spreadsheet with 2500 readings. I can't remember how to add whole columns per the instructions. Can someone provide that formula and explain how to make it work in excel (i.e where to put it and how to copy/paste to entire column) and also walk me through these instructions? I feel like I may be over-thinking this one!
2. In column G take the difference between columns E and F for each time value. (Formula needed here too!)
3. There will be an arbitrary phase offset between the captured signal and theoretical signal caused by the arbitrary trigger level in the scope. It will be necessary to shift the value of f in the equation to get alignment. The best method of finding the correct f value is to create another data set in column H by squaring the values in column G (another formula!). Sum all 2500 values in column H to be used as a fit indicator. As you vary f, the minimum value of the sum will indicate a best fit. You may also need to tweak the amplitude and offset values.
4. Plot the residuals versus time. Figure 28 illustrates sample data (not as concerned about this). How do the residual values correlate with the values expected from an 8 bit ADC?
The values below are from an excel spreadsheet and there are 2500 readings, obviously too many to list here. I just need to know how to do it, then I'll complete the entire list.

Since the excel sheet is not provided, I am showing you the formula and what to do. You have to follow this method to update your excel sheet.
(1). In this segment, you are required to generate the value of the sine wave. This thing will be done in MATLAB using the following code.
You need to generate 2500 values from equation (1).
In MATLAB type the following command:
t=0:1:2499;
x=1*sin(2*pi*1000*t); %Since amplitude is 1, frequency is 1KHz.
This will generate 2500 values. Now copy the values from MATLAB and paste in col F of your spreedsheet.
(2). Here you need to take the difference between each time value of E and F. Write in G1 pixel of excel =e1-f1 press enter. Now, select the G1 cell and extend it over 2499 values below it upto G2500.
Job for the 2nd part is also done.
