Question

Determine effect of including coil resistance in coupled inductor measurements. In Lab 3, we used meters to measure scalar values of current thru and voltage across two inductors connected in series. The following figure represents the case of No and No spacer from Lab 3. vtot was the voltage measured across both inductors in series, and Itot was current measurement which was current thru all circuit elements. From the scalar meter measurements we arrived at an impedance measurement l ztotl |Ztot| = |Vtot|/|Itot| = Vtot/Itot Assuming positive polarities in meter measures, the absolute value signs are not needed since meter readings are scalar.

Explanation / Answer

Effective inductance in the circuit is Leff=L1+L2

Then Leff=0.3+0.09=0.39H

Reff=R1+R2; so Reff=50+15=65ohm
