Question
At the RedBull Rampage competition, the mountainbikers have to jump over a canyon which is d - 22m in width. The biker leaves the ramp at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal axis. Disregard air drag and friction in this exercise.
a) what is the velocity magnitude v0 the mountainbiker must have when leaving the ramp so that he/she just reaches the pther side of the canyon?
b) what maximum height does the mountainbiker reach along the jump measured from the tip of the ramp?
c) determine the relative height the mountainbiker has to start his ride from. He must reach v0 at the tip of the ramp. He doesn't use the pedals, the bike is accelerating due to gravity only.
Explanation / Answer
(a) here Range=22 m
we know for projectile motion
Range=v^2*sin(2*theta)/g=22
putting values we got
v=14.7 m/s
(b) maximum height=v^2*sin^2(theta)/2g=5.5 m
(c) Relative height=v^2/2g=11.025 m
