To completely fill a frame of "35-mm " film, the image produced by a camera must be 36 mm high.

Part A

If a camera has a focal length of 130 mm , how far away must a 1.7 m -tall person stand to produce an image that fills the frame?

Express your answer using two significant figures.

d0 = m

Explanation / Answer

here,

focal length , f = 130 mm

the image height , hi = 36 mm

the object height , ho = 1.7 m = 1700 mm

let the image and object distance be di and do

using the lens formula

1/f = 1/di + 1/do

1/130 = 1/di + 1/do ....(1)

and

magnification , m= - di/do = hi/ho

-di /do = 36 /1700 ...(2)

from (1) and (2)

do = 6008.89 mm = 6.01 m

the object must be placed at 6.01 m
