5. A hydrogen atom has quantum states with energies -13.6ev/n?. What is the wavelength of the photon emitted when it makes a transition from the 3 state to the F2 state? a. 650 nm b. 1.9 nm c. 820 nm d. 365 nm. 70 nm Explain: 6. These are three wavefunctions for a particle in a box. V2/L Which has the highest energy a. A and B equal and highest b. Band C equal and highest 0 LI L/3 L V2 c. C 2/L L d. B L/2 e. A Explain

Explanation / Answer

here,

the energy in the nth orbit , En = E1 /n^2 , E1 = - 13.6 eV

so,

E2 = - 13.6 /4 = - 3.4 eV = - 5.44 * 10^-19 J

E3 = - 13.5 /9 = - 1.5 eV = - 2.4 * 10^-19 J

dE = 3.04 * 10^-19 J

dE = h * c /lamda

3.04 * 10^-19 = 6.634 * 10^-34 * 3 * 10^8 /lamda

lamda = 6.55 * 10^-7 m = 655 nm
