Question

The animation below illustrates a simple AC generator consisting of a loop of wire rotated by some external means with a magnetic field produced by two permanent magnets. As the loop rotates, the magnetic flux through the loop changes, producing an induced emf (voltage). Current then flows through the lightbulb, causing it to emit power. A plot shows the sinusoidal voltage produced by the rotating coil. Use the sliders to adjust the rotation speed and field magnitude. When you click "start", you can observe the alternating value of the voltage, current and power emitted by the lightbulb.

Explanation / Answer

a)

Maximum induced emf

Emax=NBAW=1*0.2*(3*10-4)(86*2pi/60)

Emax=5.4*10-4 Volts

b)

Maximum current through the bulb

I=E/R=(5.4*10-4)/5

I=1.08*10-4A
