Question

A magnetic field directed into the page changes with time according to B 0.0470 1.40, where B is in teslas and t is in seconds. The field has a circular cross section of radius t2 R 2.50 cm (see figure below). R x X X X X X X (a) When t 3.80 s and r2 0.0200 m, what is the magnitude of the electric field at point P2? N/C (b) When t 3.80 s and r2 0.020 0 m what is the direction of the electric field at point P2? O out of the page o perpendicular to r2 and counterclockwise O perpendicular to r2 and clockwise O into the page

Explanation / Answer

1)

for the electric field at P2

as B = 0.047 * t^2 + 1.40

dB/dt = 0.047 * 2 * t

at t = 3.80 s

dB/dt = 0.047 * 3.80 * 2

dB/dt = 0.357 T/s

2pi * r * E = pi * r^2 * dB/dt

E = 0.020/2 * 0.357

E = 3.57 *10^-3 N/C

the electric field is 3.57 *10^-3 N/C

b)

the direction of electric field is

perpendicular to r2 and counter clockwise
