Question

A man who built a large RC model aircraft, sent his two four legged pets up in it. The take off went smoothly, but once in the air he began to realize that this was not such a smart idea. When the plane pitched, the animals ran to high ground that would then become low ground. The animals would then run back to the other side and the process would repeat. Without controls the plane would crash. If the plan is controlled by two 420 Ohm servos that are wired in parallel with a maximum current of 0.02 amps, what is the maximum potential difference the servos could handle without burning out? What is the maximum potential difference across each servo if they are wired in series? (The animals involved did reach the ground safely via parachute. This episode ended the pest's short flight career.)

Explanation / Answer

If two resistance are in parallel ,equivalent resistance =R1*R2/(R1+R2)=210 ohm

Potential difference=210*0.02=4.2 volts

If in series

Resistance=420+420=840 ohm

Potential difference=840*0.02=16.8 volts
