1. Drinking too much water causes hyponatremia a condition of reduced salt concentration in the blood. Kidneys cannot function properly and there is swelling of cells. Hyponatremia leads to headache and vomiting.

Excessive water can also lead to production of vasopressin, the antidiuretic hormone. Too much water can also lead to brain edema.

The water intake of the body should be balanced with the amount of sweat produced.
