Respiratory alkalosis is the alkalosis caused by hyperventilation of the alveoli leading to excess loss of CO2 in the blood thereby forming less carbonic acid which disscociates and decreases H+ ions in blood thereby rising pH. Metabolic acidosis refers to the rise in pH of blood due to accumulation of HCO3 concentration due to loss of H+ ions.
