Question
Three unknown resistors are in a bin; let's call them red, green, and blue. When a Physicist connects the three resistors in series to a 30 volt source she measures 1A of current. When she connects all three in parallel to the same 30V source, she measures 11A of current. If she connects only the red and the green resistors in series to the same source, she gets the same amount of current as when only the blue resistor is connected to the source. If we assume that the blue resistor is 3 times the red resistor in resistance, when she connects just the green resistor in series to a 1 microfarad capacitor, what is the charging time constant?Explanation / Answer
V=IRT
(30)=(1)RT, RT=30 = red + blue + green
red + green = blue
therefore --> 30 = blue + blue ---> blue = 15
blue is 3-times red, red = 5
green = 10
RC = RC = (10)(1*10-6) = 1*10^-5
