Question

Two wires are carrying current as shown below. You do not know how much current is flowing in the wire on the left, wire A. You do know that: 5mA is flowing downward through wire B. The B-field at a point 5mm to the right of wire B is zero. The distance between wire A and wire B is 20mm. Using your knowledge of how the thumb points in the direction of the current and then the fingers wrap in the direction of the B-field, what is the direction and magnitude of the current in wire A? And what is the direction and magnitude of the B-field at the midpoint between the two wires?

Explanation / Answer

B due to right wire at point B is out of the page. so to cancel it B due to left wire should be inside the page

thus CURRENT IN LEFT WIRE IS GOING UPWARDS

Magnitude of CURRENT IN WIRE ON THE LEFT = 25 mA .
