Question
Why is it not possible to sit upright in a chair and then use to one's feet without first leaning forward? The torque that one's leg muscles can exert to straighten the knee joint is too small to be able to lift the body directly upward. One has to acclerate the body forward to start the motion, otherwise the legs cannot lift the body from a dead rest. Leaning forward begins a torque that the legs can then continue to bring the body to a standing position. One has to move the center of gravity of the body over the feet before one can stand up while maintaining equilibrium.Explanation / Answer
(d) One has to moe the center of gravity over the feet
