Question

A mass attached to a 50.0 cm long string starts from rest and is rotated 40 times in one minute before reaching a final angular speed.
Determine the angular acceleration of the mass, assuming that it is constant.
I started by converting 40 rev/min to rad/s
40 rev/min(2 pi/rev)(1 min/60s) = 4.19 rad/s
Then I tried w = w0 + alpha x time = 6.9 x 10^-2 rad/s^2 NOT the right answer. That would be 0.14 rad/s^2.
I found some online help, but they recommended theta = w0t + 1/2 alpha t^2. That gives two unknowns, theta and angular acceleration. Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

= 1/2 * * t2

40*2 = 1/2**3600
