Question
2. How would the process of DNA replication be different if DNA pol III could synthesize DNA in both the 5’ --> 3’ AND 3’ --> 5’ directions? Briefly explain your answer. (<3 sentences)
3. You have high school student working in your lab who is ridiculously proud of this experiment he thought up; he really wants to determine the effects of telomerase mutations in E. coli. Obviously, this experimental design is flawed... how would you explain to your student that this won’t work? (<3 sentences)
Explanation / Answer
2. How would the process of DNA replication be different if DNA pol III could synthesize DNA in both the 5’ --> 3’ AND 3’ --> 5’ directions? Briefly explain your answer. (<3 sentences)
As the DNA is antiparallel, and DNA pol III could synthesize DNA in both the 5’ --> 3 only, DNA Pol III synthesizes the DNA molecules continously on 5'>3' end and discontinously on the opposite strand. The conitnoulsy synthesized strand is called leading strand and discontinously synthesized strand is called lagging starnd. Later ligase binds all these discontinoulsy synthesized strands (okazaki fragments.)

As the E.coli belongs to prokaryote, it has a ciruclar DNA as its nuclear material instead of linear chromosome. So, they doesn't have any telomeres, so the experiments flawed.
