Question
Please answer all in details
1) If the drug delivery system is administered subcutaneous do you think that the complement system will be activated. Please explain your question.
2) What type of drug would you encapsulate in the nanocarrier, hydrophobic or hydrophilic?
3) If you find out that the hydrolysis rate of the chosen polymer is very slow. How would you accelerate the process of releasing the drug in the target?. Would you use triggered-release system mechanisms such as pH, temperature, magnetic fields, light, radiofrequency, drug activating signal. Please explain your answer.
4) Your nanocarrier is a multifunctional nanovector, this means that this nanovector can execute several functions at the same time. Imagine that you want the nanocarrier not only to deliver a drug but also to image the target tissue. Which of the following molecules would you use for this purpose?. Explain your answer. (a) Quantum dots. (b) fluorescent dyes. (c) magnetic particles
Explanation / Answer
1. Complement system is a first line of defence in immune system. It is a bridge between innate and adaptive immunity. By releasing antibodies against foreign pathogen, microbs or antigen it helps in destroying foreign harmful particle and protect our body from disease. Subcutaneous drug delivery, drug may delivered from epiderm. Hence the compliment system activated and release antibody against foreign particles (drug). Hence some time we observed redness at the area of injection (inflammation reaction) and in some cases mild fever and headach observed as immune system preliminarily activated.
2. Hydrophobic drug delivery would encapsulated in the nanocarrier. Since most of the part of our body is water, hydrophobic drug delivery is most effective in case of nano carrier.
3. If the hydrolysis rate of chosen polymer as a carrier of drug is low, than the drug may not activated in time in tissue for specific action. Hence it is important to induce hydrolysis by increasing (or decreasing) pH, temperature and magnetic field etc. in case of cancer drug delivery triggered release system mechanism is more important as the immune system of person is too low.
4. We can use fluorescent dye in a nano carrier to deliver drug as well as to imagine tissue. It is used as a bioimaging and anticancer drug to monitor carcinoma state in cancer.
