Step 5: Describe the hypothesis. What do you expect? Why do you want to study it?

Independent Variable: Indicate the Variable Name and Variable Label

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

Variables: Skin Cancer

1) Identify the independent variable

2) Identify the dependent variable and its level of measurement

3) Map out your proposed hypothesis – Independent variable, effect, dependent variable:

Hypothesis:If skin cancer is related to ultraviolet light, then individuals with a high exposure to uv light will have a higher frequency of skin cancer.

Independent variable: Exposure to UV radiation (different levels of exposure)

Dependent variable: Development of melanoma

4) Describe the hypothesis. What do you expect? Why do you want to study it?

Hypothesis:  If skin cancer is related to ultraviolet light, then individuals with a high exposure to uv light will have a higher frequency of skin cancer. The hypothesis can be tested by determining the effect of different doses of the ultraviolet radiation as the independent variable (based on existing data).
