Question
Based on the criterion of closely related genes from unrelated organisms, do your results support the horizontal gene transfer hypothesis?

Perform a multiple sequence alignment sing Clustal Omega·In a realistic scenario, you would choose 6-8 (or more) sequences from your BLAST search. However, to maintain continuity and uniformity, please use the attached file (ermBClustal.fa) NOTE: There was a mistake in the Clustal Omega demo shown in the module; Jalview does work with nucleotide sequences. In my demo the issue was with my browser.Explanation / Answer
Based on the criterion of closely related genes from unrelated organisms, i support the horizontal gene transfer hypothesis.
The horizontal gene transfer hypothesis was introduced in 1990. It is also known as lateral gene transfer. It is the non-genealogical transmission of genetic material between different organisms.Nowadays horizontal gene transfer has been reached as important factor modulating the evolution of bacteria, archeabacteria and unicellular eukaryotes. Here in the enlisted bacteria, E.coli, bacteriodies uniformis, Lactococcus garvivea, Staphylococcus etc, we can observe similar type of nucleotide sequence in unrelated organism. This indicate the horizontal gene transfer as the similar nucleotide sequence are transfered within unrelated species. Hence this is a proof for horizontal gene transfer has happened among the above enlisted bacterial species.
Horizontal gene transfer is responsible for the development of antibiotic resistance in microbes, mainly bacteria. The genes responsible for antibiotic resistance in one type of bacteria species will get transfered to other bacteria imoarting resistance to antibiotics. This is the classical example of horizontal gene transfer result in the evolution of bacteria which are genetically unrelated through gene transfer.
There are different mechanism contributing to horizontal gene transfer. They are :
In bacteria, horizontal gene transfer is the result of increased drug resistance in which one bacteria species attaining the resistance will transfer the resistance to other species.
