Question

I know that in finding the force of gravity, I have also found the force of tension in the y-direction. I know the length of the rope, but I do not think I have enough information to solve for . Am I overlooking something simple? I tried to find the electrostatic force (F=Eq), but I have to find the value of E first. The equation for E is E=(K)(Q/r2), but I don't know the radius either. To find the radius, I would need to know sin ........and I am trying to solve for theta! Any help would be much appreciated!!! Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

Tcos = mg      (1)

Tsin = kq2/r2   (2)    when     r= 1sin

(1)/(2)          cos / sin3 = mg/ kq2

                 (1-sin2) / sin3 = mg/ kq2

solve for = 3.3 deg
