Question
Problem 3 The figure shows a uniform, 5.0-T magnetic field that is perpendicular to the plane of a conducting, circular loop with a resistance of 1.5 ? and a radius of 0.024 m. The loop has 5 turns. The magnetic field is directed out of the paper as shown. Note: the area of the non-circular portion of the circuit is negligible compared to that of the loop. a) If the loop is pulled to the right and made to exit the magnetic field, what is the direction of the induced current in the resistor R. Explain your thought process in detail.Explanation / Answer
part a:
as per lenz’s law, direction of induced current would be such that it opposes the inducing magnetic field.
here magnetic field is decreasing in the direction of “out of the page “.
so the current should be such that magnetic field due to current would increase in the direction of “out of the page”
in that case, using right hand thumb rule,
current should be in anticlockwise direction
part b:
magnitude of induced emf =rate of change of flux linkage
=number of turns*area*rate of change of magnetic field
=5*pi*0.024^2*(2*5-5)/0.4
=0.1131 volts
