Question
Now look at picture – the metabolic scheme for a Cyanobacterium, which carries out oxygenic photosynthesis. Find the Photosynthesis scheme, shown to the right of glycolysis.
A. Compare it to the Oxidative Phosphorylation pathway that is depicted below the TCA cycle. Try to identify which nodes represent NADP and NADPH. Which line (reaction) represents the ATP Synthase? (You can cut and paste portions of the diagram if you wish to point out certain details of both systems.)
B. How would a mutation in the H2O binding site of PS-II affect this organism? What about a mutation in the PS-II antenna complex?
C. How would you expect this metabolic scheme to be different if this was a Green Sulfur bacterium? . . . a Purple Sulfur bacterium? (Brief descriptions are fine here – no need to try to draw it.)
Cyanobacterium:
Explanation / Answer
Ans-A the oxidative phosphorylation is being shown by the purple llines below the TCA cycle. The NADP is also shown by the purple line.
Ans-B- mutation in ps 2 will make the PS 2 unable to absorb water which is necessary for photosynthesis. The lines then should be shown by the grey lines and nodes.
Ans-C green sulphur bacteria and purple sulphur bacteria are non photosynthesis bacteria. Their whole system is diffredif from the cyanobacteria.
