Question

Name 4. A copper hoop is held in a horiaootal plane in a nifiom magnotic ficld whose fiel lines run along the sorth-south dnection, as shown in te figure (viewed from above) Descie one thing we could do to indaceaN current in the hoop. A circular wire loop has a current howing clockwise (as viewed from ahove). A second, idestical clula loop is a) brought in above the first loop, b) held in place for a few seconds, and c)then moved away again. 5. What is the direction of current flow (if any) in the second loop during each phase of its motion? a. Broaght in above the first loop: b. Held in place for a few seconds: c. Moved away again 6, Explain your answer for one part from #5. (Over)

Explanation / Answer

Magnetic flux through a single wire loop depends on:

1. Magnetic field B.

2. Area of the loop A.

3. Orientation of the loop with respect to the field, i.e. angle between B and A, theta.

(4)One thing that we can do to induce the current in the hoop is change the magnetic field strength B.

We can either increase or even decrease B. This changes the flux linked with the hoop and emf and thereby current is induced.

[Another method is to change the orientation of the hoop]
