Introductory Mechanics, leat, and Sound Homework 8 Due: April 3rd at 11:59 pm PIIYS 298 Spring 2018 1. Three blocks are connected by massless strings over frictionless pulleys. The masses of the blocks are 5m, m, and 3m respectively. The pulleys have masses of 2n and 4m respectively and both pulleys have a radius of R. What is the acceleratioof the blocks kinetic friction between block 1 and the table is ? after they have been released if the coefficient of R1 t2 2. A 1200 N uniform beam is attached to a vertical wall with a hinge at one end and is supported by a cable at the other end. A crate that weighs 2000 N hangs from the far end of the bea Calculate the tension in the cable connected to the wall and the magnitude and direction of the force exerted by the hinge on the beam 40.Explanation / Answer
Since the system is in equilibrium
Net Torque due to all Forces is zero
Torque due to tension + Torque due to weight of beam + Torque due to weight of crate = 0
the angle between Tension and the beam is (30+40) = 70 deg
the
(T*L*sin(70))-(W_beam*(L/2)*sin(60))-(W_crate*L*sin(60)) = 0
L is the length of the beam
(T*sin(70)) - (1200*(1/2)*sin(60)) - (2000*sin(60)) = 0
Tension is T = 2396.17 N
Horizontal force by the hinge on beam is Fx = T*cos(40) = 2396.17*cos(40) = 1835.57 N
Vertical Force by the hinge on beam is Fy = T*sin(40)-W_beam - W_crate
Fy = (2396.17*sin(40)) - 1200-2000 = -1660 N
F = sqrt(1835.57^2+1660^2) = 2474.85 N
direction is theta = tan^(-1)(1660/1835.57) = 42 deg below the horizontal line
