Question

fear 2UT8 Problem 4. A partide starts from the origin at 0 and moves along the positive z axis. A graph of the velocity of the particle as a function of the time is shown in Fig. 2; the v-axis scale is set by v,4.0 m/s. (a) What is the coordinate of the particle at t5.0 s s? (b) What is the velocity of the particle at t5.0 s? (c) What is the acceleration of the particle at t 5.0 s? (d) What is the average velocity of the particle between t = 1.0s and t5.0 s? (e) What is the average acceleration of the particle between t1.0 s and t 5.0 s? t (s) Fig. 2>

Explanation / Answer

(a) cordinate is (5,2).

(b) velocity is 2m/s.

(c) accleration= slope at that point= velocity/time= 2/5= 0.4 m/S2.

(d) average velocity= velocity at different times/ total time= (2+4+4+4+2)/(5-1)= 16/4= 4m/s.

(e) average accleration= sum of different slopes/ total time.

Now between 2 to 4 sec there's is a constant velocity so Zero accleration. Slopes between 1 to 2 sec and 4 to 5 sec is equal and opposite so they cancel out each other. Hence total (net) accleration is zero between 1 to 5 sec.

Henceaverage accleration is zero (0 m/S2).
