If the magnetic field points out of the page and the charge moves to the East, then what is the direction of the resulting force? (In this problem we use the points of the compass for directions on the paper with North pointing to the top of the page, and 'into' and 'out of' to indicate directions with respect to the page.)

South. We use the first right hand rule. Take you right hand ( it is a positive particle ) and point them in the direction of the velocity of the particle ( EAST or RIGHT ). Now orient your hand in such a way where you fingers can naturally bend in the dirrection of the mag field, or OUT of page. If you do this correctly, then your thumb point DOWN, or SOUTH.
