Question
The figure below shows an arrangement of 15 identical disks that have been glued together in a rod-like shape of length L =1.4200 m and (total) mass M=156 mg. The arrangement can rotate about a perpendicular axis through its central disk at pointO.
for (b) the formula given is I=1/12 ML^2
my answer was 0.222%, it turned out wrong answer and unit.
I need (b) answer with unit.
The figure below shows an arrangement of 15 identical disks that have been glued together in a rod-like shape of length L =1.4200 m and (total) mass M=156 mg. The arrangement can rotate about a perpendicular axis through its central disk at pointO. (a) What is the rotational inertia of thearrangement about that axis? (b) If we approximated the arrangement as being a uniform rod ofmass M and length L, what percentage error wouldwe make in using the formula in Table 10-2e to calculatethe rotational inertia? for (b) the formula given is I=1/12 ML^2 my answer was 0.222%, it turned out wrong answer and unit. I need (b) answer with unit.Explanation / Answer
Are you sure that part (a) is right as written? When I do part (b) I get 0.026132 kg-m2 which is about 100 times your answer.
Anyway if I multiply your answer by 100 and calculate percent difference, I get -0.222%. Try with the minus sign.
