Find a) the total work done on the gas and b) the total heat added to it during the cycle Answer: a) wtotal - 152 J; b) -152 J

total work done = area enclosed by the rectangle ;

Area = ( 2 -1 )atm * ( 2.5 -1 ) L

W = 1 * 101325 Pa * 1.5 * ( 1 e -3 m ^3 )

W = 151.9875 J <------------work done ,

( b)

since the process ends at the point it started , so U= 0 ;

since U is a state property , that depends on state ,

W + q = U ;

W + q = 0 ;

W = - q ;

or q = - W = -151.9875 J

q = -151.9875 <-------------ans
