Question
A 6kg object is lifted vertically through a distance of 5m by a light string under a tension of 80.0N. Finda) The work done by the force of tension
b) The work done by gravity
c) The final speed of the object if it starts from rest
A train of mass 2.4X106 Kg enter a 5-km stretch of track with a vertical rise of 40m at a speed of 1.0m/s and leaves at 3.0m/s. Assuming that frictional drag is negligible find:
a)each term of the equation Win = ?K + ?U + Wout
b)Average mechanical power delivered by the engine for the climb if it is done at a constant acceleration
Explanation / Answer
Multiple question post but I'll do the first one
ET = Fy = 80(5) = 400 J
Eg = -Wy = -6 * 9.81 * 5 = -294.3 J
total Fy = ma
-W + T = ma
-9.81 * 6 + 80 = 6a
6a = 21.14
a = 3.523 m/s2
v2 = 2ay
v2 = 2 * 3.523 * 5
v2 = 35.23
v = 5.935 m/s
