Question
ASSERTION : An astronat inside a massive spaceship orbiting around the earth will experience a finite but small gravitational force .
REASON : The centripetal force necessary to keep the space ship in orbit around the earth is provided by the gravitational force between the earth and the spaceship.
1) A is true and R is true and it is the correct explanation of A
2) A is true and R is true and it is not the the correct explanation of A
3) A is true and R is false
4) A is false and R is true
in my view option 2 is correct , bcoz in assertion he is telling that person is experiencing means he is going for the apparent weight concept regarding the gravitational force of earth , but i think he will experience gravitational force due to that massive spaceship .
Explanation / Answer
The option B) is correct
Here the centripetal force is provided by the gravitational force of attraction due to the Earth on the Space ship.
The gravitational force acts as centripetal force and thats why the space ship orbits.
But the astronaut does not experience a gravitational force due to Earth
The astronaut experiences gravitational force due to spaceship, but the spaceship is massive ,so this force is very small.
So both Assertion and reason are correct,But the the reason is not a correct explanation of assertion as The force experience by astronaut is due to spaceship not due to Earth.
Good question friend. The reason is the Gravity force inside a spherical shell is Zero. But here we cant consider shell to be spherical.
That's why the gravity force inside non spherical shell is Not Zero.
