(3 points) 27) What is the type of symbiotic relationship between the intestinal flora and the human? Describe that relationship. (4 points)Explanation / Answer
1. There are certain types of E. coli that cause disease by making a toxin called Shiga toxin. The "Shiga toxin-producing" E. coli is abbreviated as STEC. STEC live in the guts of ruminant animals, including cattle, goats, sheep, deer, and elk. The major source for human illnesses is cattle. Other kinds of animals, including pigs and birds, sometimes pick up STEC from the environment and may spread it. It is under mutualistsic symbiotic relationship.
