Question
A uniform magnetic field with B=Bo points into the page. A current source provides a current I that flows through the wires as shown. One of the wires is able to slide along the rails of two other wires.
a. If the wire is stationary, what force is exerted on the wire?
b. If the wire is pushed to the right with a velocity u. what voltage is induced in the loop? (of course the current remains constant because of the current source but a voltage can still be generated.)
c. Explain why a voltage is induced in the loop.
Explanation / Answer
(a) F = I l B where I be the current passing through the wire B is the appled magnwetic field pointing in to the page l is the length of the wire (b) Induced emf : e = B l u where u be the velocity with which wire has moved to right (c) Due to change of mangetic fllux linked with wire with loop is changes as area between them changesRelated Questions
