Question

You have three resistors, one of 100,200, and 300. You connect them to a battery in series and parallel.( beside the numbers is a upside down horseshoe symbol)
(a) rank the resistors in descending order in terms of the amount of current through them, indicating any ties.
(b) rank the resistors in descending order in term of size of voltage drop across them, indicating any ties.

Explanation / Answer

when in series they all equal. When in parallel, v is constant, V=IR, so V/R = I. So R1>R2>R3 For the second the parallel they are all equal. For the series, V=IR, and I is constant, so V drop goes up with R so R3>R2>R1
