How do I solve color filter problems like the ones below?

As you can see, I already have the answers to these questions, but I don't get them. I'm looking for a general approach to these problems so I can hopefully solve them on my own. You can work through one or both if you want if it would help you explain it to me better. Thanks. =)

1) A white light source produces magenta colored light after a filter
is placed in front of it. Now a second filter is placed in front of the first. What color does the resulting light have if the second filter is
