Question

A projectile is fired off of a cliff that is 1000 meters high at an angle of 80 degrees from the horizontal with an initial velocity of 50 meters per second. How long in seconds will it take to hit the floor of the canyon? How far in meters from the base of the cliff will the projectile land? (Acceleration due to gravity is 10m/sec^2)

Please help asap and provide explanation for the steps you are taking because I am really bad at physics. Thanks in advance! :)

Explanation / Answer
given that intial speed u = 50 m/s height of cliff h = 1000m projecile angle = 80 x and y components of projectile v0x = v0 cos = 50 cos80 = 8.68 m/s voy = vo sin = 50 sin80 = 49.24 m/s from the equation of kinematics y = y- y0 = voyt - 1/2 gt2 - 1000m = 49.24 m/s * t - 5 m/s2 t2 solving this quadratic equation t = 19.89s b) horizontal range of projectile x = vx cos * t = 8.68 m/s * 19.89 s = 172.64m solving this quadratic equation t = 19.89s b) horizontal range of projectile x = vx cos * t = 8.68 m/s * 19.89 s = 172.64mRelated Questions
