Question
A very slippery block of ice slides down a smooth ramp titled at angle theta The ice it released from rest at vertical height h above the bottom of the ramp Find an expression for the speed of the ice at the bottom Express your answer In terms of some or all of the variables h, theta. and free fall acceleration g. Evaluate your answer to part a for ice released at a height of 28 cm on ramp titled at 20 degree. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. Evaluate your answer to part a for ice released at a height of 28 cm on ramp tiled at 40 degree Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.Explanation / Answer
a) Assuming friction is negligible,
gravitational potential energy at top = kinetic energy at bottom
mgh = (1/2)mv²
v = sqrt[2gh] (independent of )
b) Ice released at a height of 28 cm at 20 degrees.
As seen in the formula, degree isn't taken into consideration,
h = 28 cm
v = sqrt(2gh)
v = sqrt(2 * 9.8 * 0.28)
v = 2.34 m/s
c) Velocity will remain same as ii is angle independent, v =2.34 m/s
