Have you ever floated down the South Santiam River? Spring and summerare coming, and you decided to allocatetime tomake a raft out 2.0 m long pine logs strapped together. For obvious reasons,you decide to use Oregon pine. The average diameter of your logs is 28 cm. a)How many logs do you need to strap together to build you raft? Originally you wanted a raft that carries you and your best friend (who also sits next to you in physics class), but after a short safety discussion with your friend you decide to build your raftin such a way that it willjust notsink when loaded with a maximum of 4 people. Thiswill allow you to rescue 2 people who did not carefully do their physics HW and are in danger of sinking on their wimpy little float built out of empty soda bottles and plywood

This will allow you to rescue 2 people who did not carefully do their physics HW and are in danger of sinking on their wimpy little float built out of empty soda bottles and plywood. a)Explanation / Answer
density of oregon pine = 0.53 gm/cm3
Suppose 4 persons have total weight = 240 kg
= 240000 gm
For raft to not sink:-
0.53*V + 240000 = 1*V
=> V = 510638.29 cm3
3.14*14*14*200*N = 510638.29
=> N = 4.148
=> total 5 logs are required .
