B. How many total chromosomes are present at the metaphase plate of a mitotic cell. 1 C. How many total chromatids are present at the metaphase Il plate of a cell in meiosis. D. How many total chromatids are present at the metaphase I plate of a cell in meiosis. E. How many total chromatids are present during the Leptotene phase? F. What is the n value of a cell in prophase l during meiosis? n G 6) G. What is the n value of a cell in prophase Il during meiosis? 3 H. What is the n value of a cell in prophase I of mitosis? 2n (46) 3. What are the names of the connection points on chromatids that microtubules attach to? What structures are the other ends of the microtubules associated with? are the connucthon points Cent

Explanation / Answer

A- Replication of DNA takes place during the S-phase of cell cycle. S-phase is a part of interphase where the cell divides itself for cell division.

Given that n =8 and organism is diploid so the total number of chromosomes in the organism is 16.

As we have seen that during interphase DNA replication takes place which means that the total number of chromosomes also duplicated.

So cell will have 16 chromosomes.

B- During metaphase chromosomes are arranged in the middle of the cell and cell has not yet divided. So total number of chromosomes will be 32

C- Each chromosome has 2 chromatids.

During meiosis I chromosome number is reduced to half. but each chromosome has two copies. So the number of the chromosome after meiosis I will be 8 but still, each chromosome has two chromatids.

So answer is 16 chromatids

D- In case of Metaphase I the number of chromatids will be 32 as cell has not yet divided

E- In case of leptotene the number of chromatids will be 32 as cell has not yet divided

F- 2n

G- n

H- 2n
