Question

This wasn't explained well the first time I asked. Please explain and tell me what equation(s) used (if any) and what the letters in the equation(s) stand for. Please be clear, be legible, and be concise. If I can't read it, it doesn't help me. The answer is marked (yellow hi-light). Please explain how they came up with the answer. I need to understand to do problems like this on exam.

9. Two point charges, each with charge -+Q, are located at the positions as indicated in the figure. Which of the following positions have zero E-field? A point (1) only *(3) B. point (1) & point (2) +Q +Q. C. point (1) & point (3) (2) (1) D. point (3) only E. point (2) & point (30

Explanation / Answer

for zero E field in some cases

1) charge same and distance same

because charge are same so we need to find same distance which is only two place

1 and 3

but in three total E field in the +y direction so we drop this

now on point 1 E field is in opposite direction and same magnitude due to both of charges so E = 0

so your answer is position 1
