Question

please solve both parts and if someone could explain how the second part is solved that would be great. Thanks in advance

3) A fisherman standing on a pier hooks a fish on the end of his line. He has special fishing reel that indicates how quickly the reel is rotating (note a fishing reel is just a pulley with a handle attached to it). The radius of the reel (pulley) is red 5.00[cm) and the length of the handle is -8.00[cm. He a) If the reel is rotating at 500 revolutions per minute what is the speed of the fish?

Explanation / Answer

here,

1)

radius of the reel , r = 0.05 m

length of the handle , l = 0.08 m

a)

the angular speed of reel , w = 500 rpm = 52.33 rad/s

the speed of the fish , v = r * w

v = 0.05 * 52.33 m/s = 2.62 m/s

b)

tension , T = 15 N

let the force applied be F

equating the torques

T * 0.05 - F * 0.08 = 0

15 * 0.05 - F * 0.08 = 0

F = 9.38 N

the force applied is 9.38 N
