Question
1. In the circuit shown below, the switch S is closed at t=0. Given [V, C, R] Determine:
a. The current in the 3R resistor just after the switch is closed
b. The charge on the capacitor just after the switch is closed
c.The current in the R resistor just after the switch is closed
d.The current in the 3R resistor a long time after the switch is closed
e.The charge on the capacitor a long time after the switch is closed
f. The current in the R resistor a long time after the swtich is closed.
****g. Write out the 5 equations needed to solve for the charges and currents as a function of time
Explanation / Answer
Here ,
just after the switch is closed , the capacitor will be short circuited
a) current in the 3R resistance = V/Req
current in the 3R resistance = V/(3R)
b) charge on the capacitor = 0
c)
as the capacitor is short
current in the R resistance = 0
d)
after a very long time , the capacitor will be open circuited
for the equivalent resistance
Req = 3R + R* 2R/(R + 2R)
Req = 11R/3
current in 3R resistance = V/Req
current in 3R resistance = V/(11R/3)
current in 3R resistance = 3V/(11R)
e)
charge in the capacitor after a long time =Vc * C
charge in the capacitor after a long time = 3V/(11R) * 2R/(3) * C
charge in the capacitor after a long time = 2V* C/11
