External Features of Woody Dicot Stems Woody plants are those that undergo secondary growth, producing the secondary tissues. Both roots and shoots may have secondary growth. This growth occurs be- cause of activity of the two meristems near the edge of the plant-the vascular cambium and the cork cambium.
