Question

I am trying to sketch this problem using deal diodes. I believe that it should cut off at 3V with an ideal diode and if I was using non-ideal it should cut off at 3.7 V.

That is how I believe it should work but I would like to confirm that my thinking is correct.

h the transfer characteristic 4.87 Sketch the transfer characteristic vo versus v, for the limiter circuits shown in Fig. P4.87. All diodes begin conducting at a forward voltage drop of 0.5 V and have voltage drops of 0.7 V when conducting a currentip mA. +3 V (Ea)

Explanation / Answer

Ans)

Yes your analysis is correct ,When diode is on i.e Vi>3.7 V,

Vo=3+0.7 =3.7 V

but i the above problem it has been said ,it starts conducting at 0.5 V

So for diode to be on Vi>3.5 V,now voltage across diode is 0.5 V,it increases with increase in current caused by in crease in Vi upto 0.7 V then remain constant i.e

Vo=3+0.5=3.5 V when Vi>3.5 V and it starts increases when Vi increases becomes

Vo=3.7 V and remain constant

----------------

For Vi<3.5 V,diode is off,so Vo=Vi
