Mr. Johnsons's RBC count should be closely monitored because, chemotherapy or cancer-related causes could cause anemia. Androgen deprivation, nutritional decline, bone marrow infiltration, treatment-related toxicity and chronic inflammatory state are some of the causes of anemia in prostate cancer patient. Mr. Johnson's WBC count should be closely monitored because, chemotherapy can cause supression of the immune system. The supression is seen in all type of cancers. Neutropenia is often seen in cancer patients. Due to the supression of the immune system, complications such as, neutropenic enterocolitis can occur and generally the patient will be prone to infections that could result in severe conditions.
