Question
scenarios:-Identify the types of energy involved.
-Identify where potential energy is being converted to kinetic energy or kinetic to potential.
-show how the energy turns into one another.
1: (example and please tell me if i did it correctly)
In western states, many homes generate electricity from windmills. In a particular home, a young boy is using the electricity to run a toy electric train.
My answer: Mechanical energy- kinetic changes energy into electric. kinetic trains moves and equals kinetic? (i don't think its right)
2:
A camper is using a wood fire to heat a pot of water for tea. The pot has a whistle that lets the camper know when the water boils.
3. The state of Illinois generates most of its electricity from nuclear power. A women in Chicago is watching a sports game on t.v.
4. A bicyclist is riding at night. He switches on his bike's generator so that his headlight comes on. The harder he pedals, the brighter his headlight glows.
Explanation / Answer
In the first scenario: The wind energy changes to the mechanical energy of the windmill that converts it into electrical energy. The electrical energy is then converted into mechanical energy of the train. In the second scenario: The chemical energy of the wood is converted to heat energy that heats up the water. The heat energy is absorbed by the water and that is converted into the sound energy of the whistle that is heard. In the third scenario: The mechanical energy of the pedals is converted to electrical energy that is then utilized in form of light energy.
