Question
Using this form of the equation of dN/dt=rN (Nt =Nt-n + rNt-n )
if there are initially 3000 bugs, which equal N
after one month there are 400 births and 150 deaths
b= B/N
d=D/N
r=b-d
I got 0.133-0.05=0.083
So how many bugs will there be in another month?
I am confused, I dont know if I should add the 400 births and subtract the 150 deaths and use it in the equation, like (3000)+(0.083)(3250)=3269
or do I get just use 3250 for both like
(3250)+(0.083)(3250)=3519
any help would be greatly appreciated
Explanation / Answer
According to the formula Nt =Nt-n + rNt-n
Thus , N at time t equals to N at time (t-n) + rate (i.e dN/dt=rN ).
=> Nt = (3000)+(3000)*(0.083) = 3249.
as in our case N(t-n) = 3000
Hope this helps !!
