Question
I'll just the question straight up,"In E. Coli, which terms accurately reflect the nature ofreplication of the chromosome?
I have four choices, but two of them are "unidirectional" andI know E. Coli replication is BIdirectional. So the other optionsare:
a) bidirectional and multirepliconic
b) bidirectional and fixed point of initiation
I know it starts at a replication fork, but, "fixed point"...doesthat mean it starts at just one point? I'm not sure whatmultirepliconic means anyway.
Sorry if this is a stupid question : (
Explanation / Answer
The answer is ( B) bidirectionaland fixed point of initiation as the bacterial genome is circular with a single origin site Ori C where the replication starts .But as both the strands are undergoing replication therefore it is bidirectional .
