Question

a) (1.1)2, (1.1)10, (1.1)16............The number outside the brackets means it is a base. e.g (1.1)2 means 1.1 base-2

b) (11.1)2, (11.1)10, (11.1)16

c) (10011)2, (14)10, (12)16

b) (110101101)2, (10100110)2, (F6)16, (111)16

C) (15)10, (19)10, (12)16, (17)16

Please, don't calculate the results. There are ways you can get the answers without putting them in a common base. I need to know those ways.

Explanation / Answer

a) since all numbers are same and only one digit before decimal point , its same value for all the cases as its weight is 1.after the decimal point, higher the base, lower the weight (1/2,1/10,1/16) respectively. so (1.1)2>(1.1)10>(1.1)16 b) two digits before decimal point and numbers are same, so weight is highest for 16,then 10,then 2 (11.1)2< (11.1)10< (11.1)16 c)Since numbers are different , we need to convert (10011)2=19 (14)10 =14 (12)16 = 18 so (10011)2>(12)16>(14)10 d) In this case its very easy to convert all to base 2 (110101101)2 = 110101101 (10100110)2 = 10100110 (F6)16 = 11110110 (111)16 = 000100010001 so (110101101)2> (111)16 > (F6)16 > (10100110)2 e) Convert all to base 10 (15)10=15 (19)10=19 (12)16=18 (17)16=23 (15)10
