Ultimately, however, the result was an eventual halt in one of the worst epidemics in European history and a model for protecting the public from other transmissible diseases. Does the greater good of the public trump the rights of the individual?

When situation demands, the greater good of the public undoubtedly trumps the right of the individual.

Small pox also called "the most dreadful scourge of human species" by Edward Jenner was a dangerous, contagious and a potentially fatal disease. It was like a wildlife engulfing all those, who unfortunately happened to come in its way. Many people succumbed to this disease and those with a better immunity who somehow survived were disfigured for life. This lead to an increasing urge to find the treatment of the disease as soon as possible. That is when a step was taken by Lady Montagu and Edward Jenner in wake of this critical situation.

Lady Montagu thus started experimenting on prisoners and came up with the discovery of variolation for provision of immunity against this disease. Similarly Edward Jenner experimented on his son and neighbors servant and successfully formulated the vaccine for this disease and miraculously the near future saw the eradication of this life threatening disease.

Hence, compromising the safety of an individual aimed at greater good is a necessity for creation of a better and healthier community. As well explained by Paullina Simoms "All great things worth having, require great sacrifice worth giving."
