Use one or more as applicable: high specific heat; best solvent; high heat of vaporization; adhesion; cohesion; surface tension; boiling point; freezing point; exists in all 3 states You are cooking a delicious meal and attempt to pour some hot water out of the pan on the stove. Instead of pouring nicely into the sink, the water runs along the side and the bottom of the pan and ends up on the floor. You just finished running a 10k in 80 K weather. You are really sweaty. Eventually, 2 you start to cool down. You always put ice in your cup before adding water, to avoid splashing any water out. You notice that the ice always floats to the top, even though it starts at the bottom of the cup. After a summer of record high temperatures and lots of sunny days, a lake is 4 very warm. It starts to get cooler and cloudier during the fall, but the lake is still warm enough to swim irn You love to add sugar to your morning coffee 6 through due to the surface tension A water strider is able to walk or stand on the surface of water without breaking 7. survive in the winter. The insulation of a layer of ice keeps aquatic organisms warm enough to Water molecules are transported through the vessel system of a tree up to the leaves. Blood is mostly water that contains dissolved proteins, sugar, and gases. Water flows through rapids and waterfalls, and the molecules do not come apart.

Explanation / Answer

1) Adhesion

Adhesion is the water property in which water is attracted to other substances.

2) When exercise is done for example running, body temperature increases due to high heavy work done, and if the temperature is also high body has to cool. In order to cool sweating takes place. The cooling effect is due to evaporation of sweat from the body surface.

3) Ice floats on the water because water is denser when compared to ice.

Water molecule is made of 2 hydrogen and a oxygen joined by covalent bonds. When water is cooled water molecules get attracted by the weak bond – hydrogen bond that is formed between positively charged hydrogen and negatively charged oxygen of neighbouring water thus forming crystal lattice.

4) High heat vaporization

in summer lake becomes warm by high heat vaporization, wind is less. So the surface of lake is warm. But bottom remains cooler since there is no mixing up of water.

5) Water is the best solvent. In coffee milk is the solvent and sugar is solute.

6) Water striders has hydrophobic legs, which helps them to stay above water by using surface tension of water.

7) Although top layer of lake is frozen, below water remains in liquid state and oxygen is also trapped beneath the layer of ice. As a result fish and aquatic animals can live comfortably.

8) Plants have 2 different types of transport tissue

Xylum transports water and solutes from roots to leaves. Phloem transports food from leaves to other parts of plants.

9) blood Plasma is made of 90% water which contains cells, nutrients, proteins, hormones etc., plasma along with RBC,WBC, makes blood.

10) Due cohesion and adhesion of water, they do not fall apart even when it falls from the water fall.
